They require an experienced and hands-on Warehouse Manager to oversee daily operations on a temporary basis, with a strong possibility of transitioning to a permanent role for the right candidate. This is a critical position ensuring the smooth, efficient, and safe running of a busy fulfillment centre serving the retail and catering sectors across London.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader with a proven track record in warehouse management, inventory control, and team supervision. You will be responsible for maintaining high standards of health and safety, optimizing workflows, and meeting demanding KPIs in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Oversee Daily Warehouse Operations: Manage all inbound and outbound logistics, including receiving, storage, picking, packing, and dispatch for a high-volume site in London E15.
- Team Leadership & Performance Management: Directly supervise a team of warehouse operatives, agency staff, and shift leaders. Conduct briefings, manage schedules, and ensure productivity targets are met.
- Health, Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to all HSE regulations, conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits, and maintain a culture of safety-first operations.
- Inventory Control & Stock Accuracy: Implement and manage robust inventory management systems (WMS), conduct cycle counts, and ensure stock accuracy levels exceed 99.5%.
- Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement: Analyze current workflows, identify bottlenecks, and implement lean management principles to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.
- Client & Stakeholder Liaison: Act as the main point of contact for the client on-site, reporting on daily performance, addressing issues, and ensuring service level agreements (SLAs) are consistently achieved.
- Resource Planning: Forecast labour requirements based on demand peaks, collaborating with our agency to secure additional warehouse staff when needed, similar to how we support Urgent Van Driver operations.
Essential Skills & Experience Required
- Proven Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years in a warehouse management or supervisory role within a fast-paced logistics, distribution, or manufacturing environment.
- Leadership & People Management: Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams of 15+ staff, including managing performance and conflict resolution.
- Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), inventory software, and MS Office Suite. Knowledge of RF scanners and automated systems is advantageous.
- Health & Safety Qualification: A formal qualification such as IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH General Certificate is highly desirable.
- Logistics Knowledge: In-depth understanding of supply chain principles, stock control methodologies (FIFO, LIFO), and transport logistics.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to think on your feet and resolve operational issues swiftly.
- Communication: Outstanding verbal and written communication skills for effective reporting and stakeholder management.
