Your primary role is to assist service users with their daily living activities, which includes personal care (washing, dressing), meal assistance, mobility support, and monitoring their wellbeing. You'll work under the supervision of qualified nurses or senior carers, following individual care plans to ensure each person receives dignified, person-centred support. It's a hands-on, rewarding role that is crucial to the health and happiness of vulnerable individuals.

I don't have a DBS check. Can I still apply?

Yes, you can absolutely apply. An enhanced DBS check is a mandatory requirement for all healthcare roles, but we can help you obtain one. Our team at Catering Jobs will guide you through the entire application process. In many cases, if you are eligible for an immediate start, we may be able to place you in a role while your DBS is being processed, depending on the specific client's policy. Don't let the lack of a current DBS stop you from applying – it's a standard procedure we manage for all our candidates.

What are the shift patterns like, and is there flexibility?

Flexibility is one of the key benefits of working through our agency. Shifts in healthcare are typically offered on a rota basis and can include:

  • Early Shifts: e.g., 7 am - 3 pm

  • Long Days: e.g., 7 am - 7 pm
  • Night Shifts: e.g., 8 pm - 8 am

We work with you to understand your availability and match you with shifts that suit your lifestyle. How does the weekly pay through Catering Jobs work?

Our payment system is designed to be simple and reliable. You will be paid via PAYE (Pay As You Earn), meaning tax and National Insurance are deducted automatically. Here's the process:

  1. You submit your timesheet at the end of each week (digitally or via an app).
  2. We verify your hours with the client.
  3. Payment is processed and lands in your bank account every Friday.

There are no hidden fees, and you'll receive a detailed payslip each week. It's a hassle-free way to ensure you're paid accurately and on time for all the hours you work.

Are there opportunities for career progression from this role?

Absolutely. Starting as a Healthcare Support Worker is an excellent foundation for a long-term career in health and social care. Many of our temporary placements have the potential to become permanent contracts. Furthermore, with experience, you could progress to become a Senior Support Worker, move into specialist areas of care (like dementia or mental health), or undertake training to become a Nursing Associate or even a fully qualified Nurse.
